Magellan took the wraps off of its new Triton handheld GPS series which is more focused towards outdoor enthusiasts. the Triton comes in a rugged form factor with a new screen graphics and user interface flow. It is one of the first few portable handheld GPS receivers to integrate a 2MP camera.
The Magellan Triton series also feature a digital compass and barometer as well as LED flashlight. It can withstand water and also carry an IPX-7 rating. Further more, the recent alliance between Magellan and National Geographic, making the units become the first outdoor handheld GPS to support for users access to downloadable NG topographic maps.
There are six models in in the Triton series. All of them have the capability to record, attach audio to waypoint files and support full-color touchscreen controls as well. The Triton 2000 will be released in North America starting September and will hit the Europe market in October. Some quick specs of this model, include 2.7-inch touchscreen, speaker/mic, flashlight, and SD card slot. Suggested price is $499. Meanwhile, the Triton 1500 have the same features with the former, but no camera and will retail for $399.
The Triton 200, 300, 400, and 500 feature 2.2-inch QVGA screen with the price range from $129, $149, $199, and $249.
