Finally, Tata Motors, India’s biggest automaker will start the mass production of its MDI Air Car, ‘the world’s first air-powered vehicle’. This Air-Car was developed by Guy Negre after 14 years struggling in the research and development. It might become one of the biggest technological breakthrough in this age.

As opposed to the gas and oxygen, The MDI Air Car uses compressed air to push its engine’s pistons. Estimated 6000 Air Cars will be released in India by 2008. It runs at 68 mph with 125 miles driving range. The car is going to be practical and reasonably priced, if there is no updates in the specs.

If you live near the gas station with custom air compressor units, then it will take a couple of minute to refuell the car and will cost you only $2 . But, if you do not have access to a compressor station, the car will be refueled by plugging into the electrical grid and use its built-in compressor to refill the tank in about 4 hours. Oh…Oh?

According to The Air Car official site:

Its application to CAT vehicles gives them significant economical and environmental advantages. With the incorporation of bi-energy (compressed air + fuel) the CAT Vehicles have increased their driving range to close to 2000 km with zero pollution in cities and considerably reduced pollution outside urban areas.
